Lieutenant Jason Ashworth was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, Indiana and graduated Mt. Vernon Senior High School in 1987. He attended the University of Southern Indiana where he received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Sociology with a Criminal Justice Concentration in 1992. Lt. Ashworth received his Master’s Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University in 1999. Lt. Ashworth began his career with the Sheriff's Office in 1993 when he was hired as a corrections offcer. Lt. Ashworth was later hired as a merit deputy sheriff in 1995. He worked in the patrol section until 1999, before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Section as a detective. Lt. Ashworth was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2008 and served a patrol sergeant before being transferred to the Evansville-Vanderburgh Joint Drug Task Force as unit supervisor. Lt. Ashworth was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2015 and now commands the Court Security/Transport section. Lt. Ashworth currently serves as the chairman of the deputy sheriff pension board.
Lt. Ashworth is proud of the professionalism on continuous display in the cooperation between the community, local, state, and federal authorities. The collaborative efforts between the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Evansville Police Department, Indiana State Police, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigations, United States Marshals Service, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office and The Office of The United States Attorneys continue to serve to make Vanderburgh County and the City of Evansville a safe place to live.
