Weather Alert for Thursday, January 11 through Friday, January 12, 2018

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Vanderburgh County. The warning takes effect this Thursday evening at 9PM though 9PM Friday. Heavy mixed precipitation is expected. The NWS warns that accumulations may result in power outages and tree damage.

The NWS stated, "Total snow accumulations 1 to 3 inches may occur on top of up to one quarter inch of ice accumulations. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. Strong and gusty winds may also increase the hazard to power lines and tree branches weighted by the snow and ice."

According to the NWS, a Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet, and ice are expected. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office will have additional deputies on patrol during the Friday morning commuting hours to address traffic issues resulting from the storm.
