COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS

On March 2, 1981 the Vanderburgh County Commission consisting of Commissioners Robert Willner, Richard Borries and Shirley Jean Cox enacted a resolution establishing a Community Corrections Advisory Board per Indiana Code 11-2-1. On August 15, 1983, the Commission entered into an agreement with the Department of Correction for the first Community Corrections grant. Per County Ordinance the County Work Release Program would be operated under the auspices of Vanderburgh County Circuit Court. In August 1999, the Vanderburgh County Commissioners enacted an ordinance and entered into a contract with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff to operate the Vanderburgh County Community Corrections Program.

In January of 2006 Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office has moved to the new Detention and Corrections facility located at 3500 N. Harlan Ave.
