December 6, 2016

DATE: Tuesday, December 06, 2016
SUBJECT: VCSO Prepares for Christmas with the Kids
RELEASE NUMBER: 2016-NR-092
CONTACT: Sgt. Mark Rasure
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On Tuesday, December 13th 2016, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will participate in their annual “Christmas with the Kids” program. This year’s shopping event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Super Center located at 401 N. Burkhardt Rd. Evansville, Indiana.

Since 2001 The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has enjoyed providing this service to children of the Tri-State area every Christmas. Deputies, Confinement Officers and Administrative Staff will again team up with the ARK Crisis Child Care Center for this special event.

During the shopping event, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will help the children pick out needed clothing items as well as Christmas toys from their wish list. The children will also receive help picking out an item for their family members in an attempt to show the importance of giving during the holiday season. After shopping the kids will be treated to a fulfilling lunch courtesy of the local Outback Steak House.

The ARK Crisis Child Care Center is located at 415 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47713 and provides care to approximately 200-250 children per month. The majority of the children served are referrals from social service agencies, medical personnel, legal aid services and the court system. ARK provides emergency crisis care to children six weeks old through six years of age whose families are experiencing temporary life altering challenges. This program is funded and supported by the Wallis Christmas Foundation and private donations from the community.

Also, I would like to specifically mention that on December 11th from 2-4 PM the local Outback Steakhouse is hosting several community organizations (including the Wallis Christmas Foundation) to help raise money for their respective charities. The proprietor, Trey Schenk, is graciously dedicating half of the restaurant during this time slot to enjoy a buffet of free appetizers for those people wanting to stop in and make a donation.

For information about the “Christmas with the Kids” program and the Wallis Christmas Foundation, contact Sgt. Mark Rasure or Sgt. Kerri Blessinger at (812) 421-6200.
